Impact on Wildlife
A minimum of two years' worth of studies are conducted during the siting process to assess the potential impact on wildlife, including birds and bats. Proper planning can help avoid migratory or crossing routes and determine if there is a need for mitigation.
The number of bird mortalities from turbine collisions represents a small fraction of overall bird deaths. Conservation agencies estimate over 1 billion birds annually die from attacks by domestic cats. Toxins, collisions with communication towers, buildings and cars are also higher on the list of causes for bird mortality than wind turbines.
